Working Bee 13 April 2019

WB1904frontaFor the April working bee we joined forces with Friends of Harmers Haven and went searching for Sea Spurge at Wreck Beach, Harmers Haven. Eighteen enthusiastic volunteers split into two groups, one heading east from Wreck Ck footbridge and the other moving westwards.

Click on the title to read more and look at the photos.

The mission for the one group was to remove invasive Sea Spurge seedlings growing at the high tide mark. These weeds had sprouted from seed washed in from neighbouring infested areas to the west. The other group removed seedlings from a valley within the dunes that had been sprayed last year then continued weeding as far west as time allowed. The seed load in this area will steadily reduce over time provided we keep removing the emerging seedlings before they mature and set more seed.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable morning spent with our Harmers friends improving the coastal environment in perfect beach weather.
